Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has sought the Centre’s support for the state’s key infrastructure priorities during the pre-budget consultation for the Union Budget 2026–27, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi.
Addressing the high-level meeting attended by governors, chief ministers and finance ministers, Mein highlighted Arunachal’s adherence to fiscal discipline despite geographical remoteness and long-standing developmental challenges. He said the state has consistently followed the Arunachal Pradesh Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2006, and has been meeting all committed liabilities on time.
Placing the state’s demands before the Centre, Mein emphasised the need for funding to augment water supply and drainage systems in Itanagar and other urban areas. He also underlined the strategic importance of the Rupai–Wakro–Parashuram Kund railway line, noting that the project, already cleared by the Defence Ministry, would boost connectivity, strengthen border infrastructure and promote religious tourism.
Mein further flagged limited access to externally aided projects and sought continued central support to sustain development momentum, reiterating the state’s commitment to fiscal prudence and cooperative federalism.
