Pune firm keen to set up Odisha’s first undersea cable landing station at Puri

Pune-based digital infrastructure firm Shreetech Data Ltd has proposed to lay Odisha’s first undersea cable and set up a carrier-neutral cable landing station (CLS) at Puri, a move that could significantly boost the state’s digital connectivity. The company plans to partner with Orange Business, a global leader in subsea cable systems, to execute the project on a revenue-sharing basis.

The proposed CLS is expected to support hyperscale data centres and attract telecom operators, cloud service providers and IT/ITES firms, while reducing latency and improving international bandwidth. Shreetech has offered to invest around ₹1,700 crore towards capital and operating expenditure, and undertake operations and maintenance for 25 years.

The company has sought about five acres of land near Jagannath Sanskrit University in Puri. The proposal has been submitted through the GO-SWIFT single-window portal and will be reviewed by the state’s high-level clearance authority. The Odisha government confirmed the proposal is under examination.
