JSW arm to set up a 6 MTPA steel plant in Odisha

The Odisha government has approved a 6 million tonne per annum (MTPA) steel plant in Dhenkanal district to be set up by Saffron Resources Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the JSW Group, with an investment of ₹35,000 crore. The project was among seven major industrial proposals cleared by the high-level clearance authority (HLCA) chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

Overall, the approved projects span sectors including steel, rare earth manufacturing, automobiles and auto-components, semiconductors, ferroalloys, power and renewable energy, involving a total investment of ₹55,783 crore and the potential to create over 14,500 jobs.

This marks JSW’s third mega steel proposal in Odisha after the 13.2 MTPA greenfield plant at Paradip and a proposed 12 MTPA joint venture project with POSCO in Keonjhar. Other notable approvals include a ₹12,000 crore titanium dioxide project by Jindal Poly Films and capacity expansion by GMR Kamalanga Energy. The chief minister said the clearances underscore Odisha’s push towards a self-reliant and industrially strong economy.
