Construction of the long-delayed Thanneerpandal Rail Overbridge (ROB) in Coimbatore has come to a halt for over two weeks, further pushing back the project timeline. State Highways officials said the stoppage is due to delays in shifting underground pipelines by the TWAD Board and the non-arrival of special iron rods needed for the bridge deck.
Activists and residents said work at the site has completely stopped, raising concerns over fresh delays to a project crucial for easing traffic congestion. Conceived in 2006, the ROB has faced repeated setbacks due to land acquisition issues and legal challenges.
Officials said construction will resume once pipeline relocation is completed and special 15-metre deck rods arrive, expected shortly.
