The Punjab government has launched an ambitious mission to upgrade infrastructure across its industrial zones, aiming to enhance operational efficiency, connectivity, and overall business environment. The initiative targets key industrial hubs including Ludhiana, Khanna, and Mohali, with a planned investment of approximately Rs 97.54 crore dedicated to 26 industrial focal points. These funds will be utilised to improve critical infrastructure such as roads, street lighting, signage, sewerage systems, and other essential amenities.
In addition, a further Rs 134.44 crore has been earmarked for broader upgrades across larger industrial zones, signalling the state’s commitment to fostering a modern and competitive industrial ecosystem. While the mission does not directly involve steel production, the development of industrial areas is expected to significantly influence local steel demand. Industrial sheds, utility structures, storage facilities, and other infrastructure elements heavily rely on steel, meaning that these upgrades could create new avenues for steel consumption in the region.
Officials have highlighted that the mission is part of a broader strategy to attract investment, improve operational efficiencies, and ensure that industrial areas are equipped with world-class infrastructure. By enhancing connectivity and upgrading core facilities, the initiative is expected to reduce logistical bottlenecks and improve the overall ease of doing business, thereby encouraging industrial growth and expansion.
