Two of the four planned bridges over the Sidhwan Canal in Ludhiana’s South City are nearing completion, marking a significant milestone in the city’s ongoing infrastructure development. Designed as prefabricated-structure bridges, these new constructions are approximately 36 metres in length and 11 metres in width, offering improved connectivity and traffic flow across the canal.
The bridges, which are around 90 per cent complete, are expected to be operational within the next month. The project, valued at roughly ₹16.64 crore, reflects the growing adoption of prefabricated construction techniques in urban infrastructure. Such methods not only accelerate construction timelines but also minimise disruption to local traffic, a critical factor in densely populated urban areas.
Prefabricated bridges are particularly advantageous in settings like Ludhiana, where rapid urban expansion demands swift and durable solutions. The modular components allow for efficient assembly on site, reducing the need for extended closures and enhancing overall project safety.
