₹145-Crore Jamshedpur ISBT Project to be Fast-Tracked

The Jharkhand government has moved to expedite the construction of a state-of-the-art Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Jamshedpur, a project valued at ₹145 crore. Envisioned to significantly improve the city’s public transport infrastructure, the facility will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) to combine public investment with private sector efficiency.

Spread across 13 acres, the new ISBT is planned to include multiple bus terminals, commercial shops, spacious waiting halls, and dormitories to accommodate travellers and staff. The integrated design aims to enhance passenger convenience while also supporting ancillary economic activity through retail spaces and services within the complex.

Authorities believe the project will not only decongest existing bus stands but also streamline inter-state connectivity by centralising operations in a modern, well-equipped facility. The strategic location of the ISBT is expected to improve accessibility for commuters while reducing transit time and easing pressure on surrounding roads.

Under the Hybrid Annuity Model, the government will bear a portion of the construction cost, while a private partner will handle part of the investment and take responsibility for maintenance over a defined concession period. This structure is designed to ensure both cost efficiency and high operational standards.

Officials have emphasised that accelerating the timeline is a priority, given the ISBT’s potential to become a critical transport hub for Jamshedpur and neighbouring districts. Once operational, the facility is projected to handle high passenger volumes daily, providing improved safety, better scheduling, and enhanced amenities compared to existing infrastructure.

The project is regarded as a cornerstone in Jharkhand’s broader infrastructure development plans, aimed at boosting connectivity and supporting regional economic growth.
