The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the Dangoaposi–Jaroli third and fourth rail lines, spanning approximately 85.88 km across Jharkhand and Odisha, as part of a larger ₹11,169 crore program of multi‑tracking railway expansion under the PM‑Gati Shakti National Master Plan. The rail segment is slated for completion by 2028–29 and is expected to significantly enhance freight capacity and connectivity across key mineral corridors.
The project will involve constructing new third and fourth tracks alongside the existing route to enable faster evacuation of iron ore from the Keonjhar mining belt to industrial centres and Paradip Port. It will also facilitate the efficient movement of other bulk commodities such as coal, gypsum and fertilisers. By expanding capacity, the project aims to reduce congestion, increase trade throughput and support industrial growth in eastern and northern India.
The proposal was reviewed during the 85th meeting of the Network Planning Group, chaired by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade. Officials confirmed that the project aligns with PM‑Gati Shakti’s focus on multi‑modal connectivity, last‑mile integration and synchronised infrastructure planning. Along with other recently approved rail and highway projects, the Dangoaposi–Jaroli line is expected to reduce logistics costs and decongest high‑traffic freight routes.
The expansion will benefit the steel industry by driving demand for rails, structural steel and bridge materials while supporting faster iron ore transport to processing hubs and ports. With work scheduled for completion by 2028–29, the project is positioned as a key step in boosting freight efficiency and regional industrial growth.
