The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has confirmed that the Dholera Greenfield Airport in Gujarat is on schedule for completion by December 2025. The upcoming airport is poised to become a key regional logistics hub, playing a vital role in enhancing air connectivity and supporting industrial growth in the region.
The airport is being developed with a focus on handling both passenger and cargo operations, making it a strategic asset for trade and transport. Its infrastructure will rely heavily on steel for the construction of terminals, runway structures, and cargo facilities, reflecting the increasing demand for steel in India’s expanding aviation sector.
Dholera is part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and has been envisioned as a major smart industrial city. The airport’s development is expected to attract investments, facilitate faster cargo movement, and strengthen Gujarat’s position as a manufacturing and export hub. By integrating advanced design and robust materials, the project aims to meet global standards for operational efficiency and safety.
Officials have stated that the airport will not only enhance regional connectivity but also support the state’s long-term economic ambitions by boosting tourism, trade, and industrial logistics. Once operational, it will reduce the burden on Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, providing an alternative for both passenger and cargo traffic.
The Dholera Greenfield Airport project is a significant step toward modernising India’s aviation infrastructure. It also highlights the close link between large-scale infrastructure projects and the steel industry, as the construction of terminals, hangars, and related facilities continues to drive steel demand.
