The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has granted in-principle approval for the extension of Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line from Samaypur Badli to Sonipat, passing through Nathupur. This key approval allows the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to begin work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR), a vital step in advancing the project.

Tokhan Sahu, Minister of State for MoHUA, confirmed this development in a statement to the Lok Sabha, noting that it allows DMRC to proceed with preparations for the DPR, which is necessary for moving the project forward. The approval follows a parliamentary inquiry about extending the Yellow Line from Samaypur Badli to Narela.

The Yellow Line, currently 47.2 km long, connects Samaypur Badli in North Delhi to Millennium City Centre in Gurugram, serving 37 stations and eight interchange points. This extension to Sonipat will further enhance Delhi Metro’s integration with Haryana’s transport infrastructure.

As India’s longest urban transit system, with 395 km of track and 12 operational lines, Delhi Metro plays a crucial role in connecting Delhi with neighboring cities like Noida, Greater Noida, and Gurugram.

The planned extension will improve mobility, reduce congestion, and provide better access to key economic centers in the National Capital Region, benefiting millions of daily commuters.
