The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is nearing completion of Phase 2A of Metro Line 3, set to open by late March 2025. This phase extends from Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk, Worli, and is part of the larger 33.5 km Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro 3 corridor, also known as the Aqua Line. Designed to boost Mumbai’s public transport network, the corridor aims to ease congestion and shorten commute times across key commercial districts.
The BKC-Worli section has reached 93.1% overall completion, with station construction at 98.9%. System-related works are at 85.8%, and the MMRC has been directed by the state government to complete the section within the next 100 days. The new phase follows the successful commissioning of the 12 km Aarey-BKC stretch in October 2024. While initial ridership was below expectations, officials anticipate a surge once the entire Aarey-Colaba corridor is operational.
This extension is part of Mumbai’s long-term strategy to improve urban mobility by integrating metro lines with existing transport systems. The Aqua Line will link major business hubs, offering a reliable alternative to road travel and significantly reducing travel times. The final development stages include architectural finishing touches and mandatory safety approvals before public launch.
Once fully operational, Metro Line 3 is expected to be a game-changer for Mumbai’s public transportation, enhancing connectivity across the city while easing congestion on one of its busiest transit routes.
