The highly anticipated semi-automated cargo terminal at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad is set to begin operations by mid-2025. Spanning a total area of 33,000 square meters, the terminal’s first phase, which covers 21,000 square meters, has already been completed. Strategically located near the India Meteorological Department (IMD) office on the airport campus, the facility is designed to streamline cargo handling operations and cater to the growing demands of domestic and international logistics. However, the terminal’s operational launch hinges on securing regulatory approvals from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), which are still pending.
Once the necessary clearances are obtained, the terminal is expected to commence operations by May 2025. With a robust capacity to manage up to 2 lakh tonnes of cargo monthly, the facility aims to significantly enhance Ahmedabad’s role as a key logistics hub in the region. It is equipped to handle a wide range of shipments, including express couriers, pharmaceuticals, and other goods requiring efficient and secure transport. The semi-automated design ensures improved efficiency, reduced turnaround times, and streamlined processes, which are critical to meeting the rising demands of businesses and industries relying on air cargo.
The new terminal is poised to substantially impact Gujarat’s economy, fostering growth in trade and commerce. By offering advanced cargo-handling capabilities, the facility is expected to attract more domestic and international carriers, boost connectivity, and make Ahmedabad a focal point for logistics in western India. Additionally, the terminal’s state-of-the-art infrastructure will support pharmaceuticals, textiles, and manufacturing industries, ensuring the swift and seamless movement of goods across borders.
