Indore’s much-anticipated metro services are expected to commence in February 2025, with the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) nearing completion of document submissions to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for approval. Once the CMRS grants clearance, commercial operations will soon follow.

The first phase of the metro will operate along a 5.9 km priority corridor between Gandhi Nagar station and station three on the Super Corridor. Although the area currently has a sparse population, the metro is anticipated to attract more passengers as the network expands.

Initially, three-coach trains will run on the route, each accommodating up to 300 passengers. The project’s total cost is Rs 7,500.80 crore and encompasses a 31.5 km ring-shaped corridor encircling the city. Stations have been designed to support six-coach trains, allowing for future scalability as ridership grows.

The Indore Metro is poised to significantly enhance the city’s public transport system, catering to both immediate and long-term urban mobility needs.
