Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA), operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), has earned the prestigious Certificate of Merit at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2024 (NECA 2024). This achievement makes it the only airport in India to receive this honour, as announced on Saturday. AAHL, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd, was recognised for its exemplary efforts in energy conservation.
Organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the Ministry of Power, the NECA Awards celebrate organisations demonstrating exceptional advancements in energy efficiency. The company stated that SVPI Airport’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond energy conservation, with active efforts focused on waste reduction, recycling, and the transition to fully renewable energy sources.
The airport has implemented state-of-the-art energy-saving measures, including replacing inefficient chillers and cooling towers with high-efficiency systems. The adoption of centralised chiller plants and energy-efficient Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) air conditioning systems has enhanced the performance of its HVAC systems while significantly reducing energy consumption.
Water conservation is also a key focus, with water-efficient aerators installed across the airport and recycled sewage water utilised for horticulture and HVAC operations. In addition, the airport has reduced its carbon footprint by deploying electric vehicles for operational use, further aligning with sustainable transportation goals.
The Adani Group highlighted that this recognition underscores SVPI Airport’s role in setting new sustainability benchmarks in the aviation sector. The company conveyed that the NECA 2024 award is a testament to its ongoing efforts towards a greener, more sustainable future. Adani Enterprises Ltd also celebrated its record-breaking performance this fiscal, driven by rapid growth across divisions like Adani New Industries Ltd and Adani Airport Holdings Ltd.
