In a significant move to boost metro rail infrastructure, the Rajasthan government has announced the formation of a joint venture between the central and state governments to oversee metro projects across the state. This new entity will manage both ongoing and upcoming metro initiatives, including the different phases of Jaipur Metro and other proposed metro systems in cities across Rajasthan.
The joint venture will be responsible for the construction, installation, operations, and maintenance of metro projects. However, the first two phases of Jaipur Metro will continue to be managed by the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC). This new venture aims to streamline the development and execution of metro projects throughout the state.
To facilitate the establishment of the joint venture, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma revealed that a steering committee, chaired by the Chief Secretary, has been set up. The committee will prepare the necessary formalities and procedures for the venture’s formation, which is expected to accelerate metro development and improve urban transport across Rajasthan.
