Singapore Sentosa Island’s groundbreaking 350 m sensory walk, marks the first phase of an ambitious masterplan to transform Sentosa and Pulau Brani into premier leisure and tourism destinations. This multi-sensory corridor connects Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) to the picturesque beaches, providing an exceptional step-free experience for all visitors. The two-tiered walkway features ‘hammock’ structures that serve as seating and a playful rhythm.

Six sensory gardens have been curated to highlight the site’s ecological diversity during the day and night. Additionally, three woven basket-like structures offer distinct sensory experiences, each with unique architecture yet part of the cohesive design collection. One of the challenges of the Sensoryscape was ensuring accessibility from the lower walkway to each sensory garden.

This was addressed by creating a series of interwoven strands that form a basket structure with dilated openings. Utilising a parametric design approach, the diagrid and infill elements maintain a self-similar yet varied pattern, allowing light, nature, and views to flow freely. At night, these spaces transform into surreal landscapes, enhanced by digital light art and augmented reality.

Another highlight is the ‘Tactile Trellis’ featuring a large vessel structure crafted from petal-like precast concrete elements. This garden’s material composition incorporates a delicate mix of textures and aggregates and complements the diverse plant species within. Visitors can find seating of various sizes amidst the greenery, while the concrete surfaces serve as a canvas for projections and interactive light displays after dark.

A captivating feature is the ‘Scented Sphere,’ a grid shell structure showcasing concentric ‘stalks and buds’ that suspend fragrant flowers. Composed of four woven steel strips, it features plant species selected for their distinctive scents, creating a year-round aromatic experience.

‘Symphony Streams’ presents a polyphonic water fountain with 200 acoustic pails, where water cascades to produce soothing waterfall-like sounds. A circular ring-shaped at the base, invites visitors to engage with the flowing water, enriching the sensory experience. The ‘Glow Garden’ is a plaza surrounded by towering illuminated stalks that guide the visitors from the Sensoryscape to the beach at night, framing a dramatic entry plaza at Beach Station.
