The Andhra Pradesh government is awaiting central clearance for the Visakhapatnam Metro project, a key urban transportation initiative designed to enhance connectivity in the state’s economic and commercial hub. The metro aims to improve public transport infrastructure, alleviate traffic congestion, and promote eco-friendly mobility.
The project features two main corridors: one linking the city’s northern and southern regions, and another connecting vital transport hubs. Spanning approximately 42 kilometers, the metro will provide efficient, rapid transit for residents and visitors, reducing travel time and easing traffic bottlenecks.
The detailed project report (DPR) is already complete, and discussions with stakeholders are underway. Once approved, the metro will be pivotal to Visakhapatnam’s transport network, enhancing access to key commercial, residential, and industrial areas.
Part of a broader push to modernize infrastructure and promote urban mobility, the project will foster sustainable, low-carbon transport. It is also expected to boost real estate development, generate employment, and drive economic growth.
The Andhra Pradesh government hopes for expedited central approval, emphasising the metro’s critical role in transforming Visakhapatnam into a smart, well-connected metropolis.
