Rewa Airport in Madhya Pradesh has received clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for its construction, marking it as the sixth airport in the state. This development is a significant milestone in enhancing regional air connectivity under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, which aims to provide affordable air travel and boost the state’s economy by linking Rewa with major Indian cities. The DGCA’s approval advances the project closer to reality, enhancing regional connectivity.
Rewa, known for its historical and cultural heritage, will benefit from improved accessibility, which is expected to boost tourism and business activities. The airport will facilitate faster transportation to key attractions like Bandhavgarh National Park and Rewa Fort. As part of the UDAN initiative, the Rewa Airport project aims to make air travel affordable for smaller cities, promoting economic growth by increasing tourism, trade, and investment.
The new airport will join the existing airports in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Khajuraho, further strengthening Madhya Pradesh’s air network and improving regional connectivity. It will feature modern infrastructure capable of handling small to medium-sized aircraft, with facilities to support both passenger and cargo services. The airport will offer flights to cities such as Bhopal, Indore, and Delhi.
The establishment of Rewa Airport is anticipated to stimulate local economic growth by attracting investments and creating job opportunities. Its proximity to popular tourist destinations will enhance Rewa’s appeal as a travel hub. Construction is set to proceed swiftly following DGCA approval, with operations expected to commence soon, contributing to Madhya Pradesh’s growing air traffic and regional aviation prominence. The project aligns with the government’s vision of expanding affordable air travel and bolstering regional development.
