The redevelopment of Cherlapally railway station in Telangana, estimated to cost Rs 4.3 billion, is nearing completion and is set to finish within a few weeks, according to South Central Railway (SCR) officials. The project is an ambitious upgrade aimed at modernizing the station on Hyderabad’s eastern side, enhancing its capacity and functionality.
The revamped Cherlapally station will be equipped to handle 15 additional train services with the addition of 10 new lines. It will feature four new high-level platforms and extended existing platforms to accommodate full-length trains, significantly improving the station’s ability to manage passenger traffic. This upgrade is expected to address congestion at other rail terminals in the twin city region and better serve the rapidly growing eastern part of Hyderabad.
The eastern region, which includes areas such as LB Nagar, Uppal, and Malkajgiri, is experiencing rapid development due to its proximity to the Outer Ring Road. The redevelopment of Cherlapally is intended to facilitate improved commuting for residents of these areas and support the region’s growth.
Once completed, Cherlapally will become the fifth major terminal in Hyderabad, joining Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kacheguda, and Lingampally railway stations. The new station infrastructure aims to enhance passenger convenience and contribute to the overall efficiency of the city’s rail network.
