The 67th session of the Network Planning Group (NPG) convened on March 12, 2024, in New Delhi, to evaluate three initiatives from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and two initiatives from the Ministry of Railways (MoR), as per a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Chaired by Additional Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Rajeev Singh Thakur, the meeting focused on advancing comprehensive regional socio-economic progress in line with PM GatiShakti principles.
Among the projects assessed, MoRTH presented proposals for a Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Maharashtra, aiming to enhance freight movement efficiency through a public-private partnership model. Additionally, highway projects in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Bihar, including NH-334D widening and a 4-lane elevated corridor construction, were discussed for their potential to ease congestion and improve connectivity.
The Ministry of Railways introduced a new Broad Gauge (BG) line linking Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to enhance regional connectivity. Moreover, the doubling of the Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga and Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur railway section under the East Central Railway is expected to enhance section capacity and provide an alternate route from Delhi to Guwahati.
These projects, strategically designed to integrate various transport modes, hold promise for significant socio-economic benefits and aim to contribute to the overall development of the regions.
