The annual passenger capacity at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneshwar is set to double this year, making it the 14th busiest airport in the country. Currently handling 4.1 million passengers, the newly inaugurated link building connecting domestic and international terminals is expected to raise the capacity to 4.6 million annually.
BPIA officials are reconfiguring and altering facilities to achieve a handling capacity of 8.8 million by March. Additional features include more check-in counters, X-ray scanners, enhanced security areas, and increased departure gates. Despite delays in construction, the link building and terminal upgrades cost Rs 87.21 crore and aim to improve the airport’s efficiency and service for both domestic and international passengers.
