Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) is embarking on an ambitious venture to transform its Angul unit into India’s largest single-location steel manufacturing facility, as stated by Managing Director Bimlendra Jha.
Currently, the capacity of the plant in Odisha is undergoing a significant expansion, set to increase from the current 5.6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 11.6 MTPA. In an interview with PTI, Jha discussed the company’s vision, noting that the company plans to further double it up to 24 MTPA, making it India’s largest single-location steel plant. However, no specific timeline for this ambitious expansion plan was provided.
Furthermore, the steel plant in Raigarh is also primed for substantial growth, with plans to expand its capacity from 3.6 MTPA to 9.6 MTPA, as officially confirmed by the company.
When discussing the Angul facility’s expansion, Jha emphasized the company’s commitment to achieving trial production by the end of 2023, followed by full-scale commercial production in the subsequent year.
Regarding the outlook for the steel sector in India, Jha pointed out the country’s growth trajectory, driven by the government’s focus on infrastructure projects. These projects have been instrumental in boosting domestic steel demand, positioning JSPL and the industry as a whole for robust growth in the years to come.
