Enhanced Tezu Airport Infrastructure to Boost Northeastern Connectivity

In a collaborative effort, Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel, and Pema Khandu, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, will inaugurate the newly upgraded infrastructure of Tezu Airport on September 24 in Arunachal Pradesh. This significant initiative aims to expand connectivity in the northeastern region of India and fortify the local economy, as stated in a press release by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Tezu Airport, originally a domestic airport located in Tezu town, has undergone a remarkable transformation with infrastructure improvements totaling Rs 170 crores. These enhancements encompass the extension of the runway to 1500 meters by 30 meters, the construction of a modern apron capable of accommodating two ATR 72 type aircraft, the establishment of a new terminal building, and the creation of a fire station cum Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower, all detailed in the press release.

Operationalized under the RCS UDAN scheme of the Ministry of Civil Aviation in 2018, Tezu Airport has played a pivotal role in enhancing regional connectivity by offering scheduled flights to Dibrugarh, Imphal, and Guwahati through Alliance Air and Flybig Airlines.

Key features of the new terminal building include a spacious terminal area covering 4000 square meters, a peak-hour capacity to serve 300 passengers, 5 check-in counters (with 3 more to come in the future), 2 arrival carousels, and 2 aircraft parking bays for ATR-72 type aircraft.

Notably, the infrastructure upgrades at Tezu Airport prioritize sustainability and energy efficiency, featuring a double-insulated roofing system, an energy-efficient HVAC and lighting system, low heat gain glazing, ECBC-compliant equipment, a solid waste management system, reuse of treated water for flushing and horticulture purposes, rainwater harvesting integrated with a sustainable urban drainage system, and the use of efficient water fixtures, as outlined in the press release.
