Assam’s Longest Bridge Set to Transform Guwahati’s Transportation Landscape

Guwahati is on the brink of a transportation transformation as the grand unveiling of the Maligaon Flyover, Assam’s longest, is scheduled for August 30. Constructed by a joint effort of Shree Gautam Construction Co Ltd and Anupam Nirman Pvt Ltd, this l project, engineered by the Assam PWD, is a testament to modern engineering.

Stretching 2.63 kilometers, the 4-lane steel girder flyover stands as a symbol of the city’s progress. The project, with an investment of ₹420.75 crore, commenced in March 2021, and its completion is poised to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in the area.

The main bridge, a remarkable 2,309 meters in length, has 59 strategically placed pillars, showcasing the bridge’s remarkable engineering. Another notable feature is the extended arm toward Pandu Ghat, a two-lane segment catering to commuters in that direction.

One of the striking aspects of the Maligaon Flyover is its steel girders, amounting to a staggering 20,000 tonnes. The execution of this massive project required the expertise of around 1,500 skilled professionals.

Illumination is a crucial factor in ensuring safety, particularly during the night. To address this, the flyover boasts 210 light posts strategically positioned at 35-meter intervals along its expanse.

The bridge’s inauguration marks the culmination of almost three years of anticipation, promising enhanced urban connectivity and efficient transportation. As the longest flyover in Guwahati, it is set to reshape how residents navigate the city’s bustling roads, while its thoughtful design and construction underline its significance in Assam’s infrastructure landscape.
