Cabinet approves 4 railways, road projects worth Rs 11,944 crore

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Narendra Modi, has approved four major infrastructure projects- two railway and two highway developments- worth ₹11,944 crore to enhance connectivity and logistics efficiency across key corridors in India.

The railway projects include the construction of a fourth line on the Sainthia–Pakur railway line and the Santragachi–Kharagpur railway line. Covering five districts across West Bengal and Jharkhand, the projects will expand the rail network by about 192 km and are expected to increase freight loading capacity by nearly 31 million tonnes per annum. The 81-km Sainthia–Pakur stretch forms a key link on the Howrah–Guwahati and Howrah–Patna corridors, while the Santragachi–Kharagpur section is part of the high-density Mumbai–Howrah and Howrah–Chennai routes.

Among the road projects, the government approved four-laning of the Badnawar–Timarwani section of NH‑752D, strengthening connectivity between Ujjain and central India with the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. Another project involves a 7.8-km elevated road linking the expressway spur to Noida International Airport, intersecting the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Yamuna Expressway and the Dedicated Freight Corridor to improve regional mobility.
