The comprehensive mobility plan for Pune and its surrounding regions includes a proposed railway line from Rajewadi station on the Satara route to the upcoming international airport at Purandar. This initiative aims to facilitate seamless travel and improve transport infrastructure in the Pune Metropolitan Region.

The integrated transport plan covers 2,550 sq km across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and is set for phased implementation with an estimated budget of Rs 1.26 lakh crore. It includes metro expansion, enhancements to bus rapid transit (BRT) corridors, improved railway routes, and traffic management projects for key locations like Pune, Shivajinagar, Chinchwad, and Talegaon.

As part of the railway expansion, an outer railway bypass is planned between Talegaon and Daund in two phases. The first phase will introduce a feeder service from Talegaon to Shikrapur via Uruli Kanchan, followed by a railway link from Shikrapur to Daund. On the Satara route, Jejuri and Rajewadi stations are positioned near the new airport, with Rajewadi being the most suitable for a dedicated rail link.

Additionally, the Pune-Lonavala railway expansion is expected to optimise traffic flow, while a proposal to relocate the passenger terminal from Fursungi to Shindawane is under consideration. Road connectivity improvements to the new airport include upgrades to key routes such as Hadapsar-Saswad via Dive Ghat, Saswad-Bopdev Road, Uruli Kanchan-Jejuri Road, and Khed-Shivapur-Saswad Link Road.
