Intertech & James Durrans to Localise Marconite Manufacturing in India

Intertech and UK-based James Durrans & Sons have announced phased local manufacturing of Marconite, a carbon-based conductive material used in earthing and lightning protection systems, at ELASIA 2026, South Asia’s premier power and electrical trade fair. The first phase targets a pilot manufacturing facility within 12 to 18 months, with operations scaled subsequently for the broader Indian market.

James Durrans, a 163-year-old British manufacturer and global originator of Marconite technology, has partnered with Intertech since 2011 to expand the product’s presence across India’s solar energy, power utilities, oil and gas, railways, and metro infrastructure sectors. Clients include Tata Steel, Delhi Metro, the Indian Air Force, and the Indian Army.

Unlike conventional grounding compounds, Marconite is waterless and maintenance-free, attributes that have driven its adoption across critical global infrastructure including British Telecom, the UK Ministry of Defence, and Saudi Aramco. The localisation initiative aligns with Make in India while strengthening domestic access to a globally proven earthing technology increasingly relevant to India’s expanding power and infrastructure ecosystem.
