Union Minister of State for Aviation Murlidhar Mohol and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis convened a review meeting at Sahyadri Guest House, Mumbai, to discuss key aviation projects in Maharashtra. The meeting highlighted plans to enhance air connectivity in Pune through the development of a new airport and the expansion of the existing Pune International Airport.
The much-anticipated Purandar Airport project is set to gain momentum, with officials announcing that the land acquisition process will begin soon. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be finalized by September 2025, and the airport is scheduled to become operational by March 2029. This project aims to significantly improve regional connectivity and ease the pressure on Pune International Airport.
In addition to Purandar Airport, the expansion of Pune International Airport was also a key focus. The Operational Level Survey (OLS) for the runway extension has been successfully completed, with land acquisition slated to finish within six months. This expansion will enhance the airport’s capacity, accommodating more flights and improving overall efficiency.
These initiatives underline the government’s commitment to strengthening Maharashtra’s aviation infrastructure. Both projects are expected to boost regional economic growth, enhance connectivity, and position Pune as a significant hub for air travel in the state.
