Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 15 airport projects, totalling Rs 9,800 crore in capital expenditure, including new terminals at 12 airports such as Delhi, Lucknow, and Pune.
Addressing the event, Modi emphasized the importance of focusing on development beyond election cycles, aiming to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.
The projects aim to significantly enhance passenger capacity, with the three new terminals expected to accommodate 95 lakh passengers annually and the 12 terminals collectively handling 620 lakh passengers.
These projects include establishing new airports in Uttar Pradesh and new terminals in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, bringing air connectivity to regions like Azamgarh, Chitrakoot, Shravatsi, and Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh for the first time.
The Civil Aviation Ministry has outlined a Rs 1 lakh crore investment plan to increase the number of airports from 148 to 200 over the next four years, including new constructions, expansions, and improvements in allied infrastructure like Air Traffic Control.
Additionally, major airport operators like GMR and Adani are undertaking significant projects to enhance capacity and improve passenger experience, reflecting the broader push for infrastructure development in the aviation sector.
