Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has signed a contract for the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for property development at five metro stations: Alandur, Alapakkam Junction, Boat Club, Nandanam, and Wimco Nagar Depot. This development covers both Phase I and II lines, with the contract valued at Rs 67.2 lakh. The contract has been awarded to M/s. Jones Lang Lasalle Property Consultants India Private Limited, and the final DPR is expected to be ready in 150 days from the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) issued on October 28.

The property development aims to generate non-fare revenue for the metro project by integrating commercial spaces with metro stations. At Alapakkam, the property will be connected to the Phase II station through a foot-over-bridge (FOB), while Nandanam’s property development will link to the upcoming underground station. Alandur’s property development will connect with both the Phase I and Phase II stations.

The Wimco Nagar Depot station will feature eight floors of property development above the existing metro building. CMRL’s efforts to integrate property development with the metro stations are in line with its broader strategy to increase non-fare revenue, enhancing the sustainability and growth of the metro network in Chennai.
