VIPE 201, a project by Vipe Arquitetura, is an amalgamation of minimalist design principles and a pragmatic approach to construction. The building is a bold statement on Manaus’ cityscape, characterised by its stark yet elegant form.

A structural simplicity underpins the building’s aesthetic. With only six concrete pillars and three flat prestressed slabs, the architects have achieved a spacious, open interior. The exterior, a deliberate contrast, features a robust composition of precast concrete and corten steel panels. This material palette, combined with the building’s monolithic form, creates a striking and enduring architectural presence.

The facade is a careful orchestration of light and shade. Large prefabricated brise-soleil elements, strategically placed, protect the interior from the intense tropical sun while allowing filtered daylight to penetrate. This play of light and shadow, combined with the use of recessed glass panels, defines the building’s character and fosters a strong connection between the interior and exterior spaces.

The integration of greenery into the facade further enhances the building’s environmental performance and visual appeal. Vertical gardens and strategically placed planters not only contribute to the building’s aesthetics but also help to mitigate the urban heat island effect.

VIPE 201 is a demonstration of how thoughtful material selection, structural efficiency, and a minimalist design approach can create a powerful and enduring architectural statement.
