Equinix has inaugurated a state-of-the-art AI-ready data centre in Chennai, situated on a six-acre site at Siruseri. The facility, initially equipped with 800 racks, is designed to scale up to 4,250 racks over the next four to six years, catering to high-density computing workloads. Advanced infrastructure, including liquid-cooling systems and high-capacity power management, underpins the centre’s design, making it a landmark development in India’s data centre landscape.

Structural steel is extensively used in the building frame, supports, ceilings, raised floors, cable trays, and equipment infrastructure. Foundations, floor slabs, walls, and utility areas incorporate reinforced concrete, requiring rebar and other reinforcement steel components. Additionally, steel is essential in electrical infrastructure, including server racks, cable trays, power distribution units, and backup systems, as high-density AI centres demand robust support for heavy electrical loads. Cooling and mechanical systems, including liquid-cooling units, HVAC ducts, piping, and pump supports, further contribute to steel consumption.
