Vizag to Unveil India’s Longest Cantilever Glass Skywalk

Visakhapatnam is set to add a striking landmark to its tourism infrastructure with the upcoming inauguration of the country’s longest cantilever glass skywalk at Kailasagiri Hills. The 55-metre structure is poised to offer visitors a unique vantage point, combining panoramic views with cutting-edge engineering.

What sets this skywalk apart is the robust framework underpinning its design. Supported by 40 tonnes of steel, the structure highlights the critical role of steel in delivering both safety and durability. Engineers have emphasised that the choice of material was essential not only for withstanding the load of visitors but also for ensuring stability against wind, seismic activity, and long-term wear.

The project has been designed to balance aesthetic appeal with structural integrity. The transparent glass walkway, extending into open space, offers an immersive experience for tourists while simultaneously showcasing the strength of modern construction methods. By employing high-quality steel in the support system, the development reflects the synergy between innovative architecture and reliable material performance.

Tourism officials anticipate that the skywalk will become a major attraction, drawing both domestic and international visitors. Beyond enhancing the city’s tourism profile, the project is also expected to generate employment opportunities and stimulate local businesses, from hospitality to transport services.

Industry observers note that such projects underline the importance of steel in non-traditional applications. While steel has long been associated with core infrastructure such as bridges, highways, and industrial plants, its use in tourism-focused projects highlights its versatility and adaptability in meeting diverse design requirements.

The new skywalk at Kailasagiri Hills represents more than a scenic viewpoint; it symbolises how material innovation and architectural ambition can come together to redefine urban spaces and strengthen India’s tourism infrastructure.
